A few months ago, I had the opportunity to speak on things we need to consider in order to become better students of the Bible. Between you and me, I bit off more than I could chew, attempting to cover way too much for a single session. Nevertheless, it the audience was gracious and receptive.
Here are some of the main ideas:
Studying the Bible is one of the primary ways in which we know God deeper and become the people he made and saved us to be.
Recognizing the various genres of the Bible is vital for proper interpretation.
We must not begin with our story and then see what God has for us;
we must locate ourselves in God’s story, seeking His kingdom first.
Here is a recording of the talk.

Paid subscribers will be able to download the notes from the talk. These include more information as well as all references mentioned. This is a real benefit for this talk since I had to cover so much ground.
